On 4/16/10, we placed an order for a custom built gate for our residence. We paid $2820 as a deposit (one half of the purchase price w/shipping). Our check was cashed on 4/20/10. We were told this would be a 6 to 8 week
process. At that time we felt very good about our choice to go with this company because Mr. Allen was staying in contact with us regularly. However, that stopped once we began pushing the status of our order.
On 6/2/10, we emailed Mr. Allen and asked how the gate was coming along and he told us that production was behind. He told us he would get back in touch with us on when it would ship. We never heard back from him after making several phone calls. On 8/9/10, I called and left a message with a lady stating that I needed a response by the end of the week about when our gate would ship or cancel my order. On 8/11/10 a lady called my husband and said our gate was at the powder coaters and should ship within a couple weeks. On 8/30/10, we sent an email cancelling the gate
again. Mr. Allen called my husband and said it had just gone to the powder coaters and should be shipping the next week. On 9/22/10, I sent another email canceling the order and requesting my money be refunded. Mr. Allen emailed me back within a couple of hours and stated that he would prefer the gate be delivered and "call it even". I responded that I was through with this transaction and to overnight my check. As of today 10/19/10, we have not received our deposit. I have found that this gentleman operates under 2 names: Custom Gate Systems Inc at 1332 Simpson Way, Escondido CA
92029 and a Custom Gate Crafters at 518 S Quince Street, Escondido, CA 92025. The only number I have is 760-747-7077.
BUYERS BEWARE!!!! I have filed a complaint with the BBB only to have the case closed due to his lack of response. I am attempting to go through the California State License Board. However, his name or the business names are not coming up on their website. Apparently he is operating without a business license.
